HOLIDAY ACTIVITIES The population of children who have one or both parents in jail or prison are a “silent population.” A special population that society does not often think about. Many of them are thrust into poverty through no fault of their own. Each year there are children in Stanislaus County who have been left behind because of a parent's incarceration. Although exact numbers of these children are not known, consider the fact that the Stanislaus County Detention Facilities house approximately 1200 inmates at any one time. 70% of these inmates are parents with the majority of the children ranging in age from younger than 5 to 15 years old. These local figures do not include inmate parents who have transferred from our local facilities and are now serving prison time. Each year Friends Outside provides a wonderful Gift Give-away at Christmas and special baskets for Easter. We cannot always serve every child who would like to participate – we need your help! If you or your group – no matter how big or small – would like to help our children please think about adopting a family of children during one of these holidays! Families usually have between 2- 5 children. Your support means a brighter Christmas or happier Easter for each child. If you would like to help please call (209) 522-2209 |
